Real Madrid are set to quash the exit talk surrounding midfielder Xabi Alonso by offering the Spanish international a new two-year contract, report The Express.
With his current deal set to expire at the end of the season and the possibility of the 32-year-old leaving the Bernabeu on a free transfer, the former Liverpool favourite’s future has been uncertain in recent weeks. A number of reports have capitalised on the rumoured unrest and linked the Spaniard with a return to the Premier League. Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and the Merseysiders have all been linked with his signature, who enjoys a glowing reputation in England due to his imperious performances for five years at the heart of Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool side.
However, Real Madrid have sought to rebuff the advances and are willing to offer Alonso a two year deal that will also include a pay rise despite his age. A string of injuries has restricted him to just 7 appearances this term but still boasts an impressive 90% pass accuracy. Boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen on keeping the pass master and confident a deal will be finalised soon, “I think that we will find a solution and reach an agreement between club and player,” the Italian stated.
