Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky is set to sign a new contract extension to keep him at the club, according to manager Arsene Wenger.
After scoring a beautifully worked goal in Arsenal’s 4-1 stroll against Sunderland on Saturday, the Czech Republic midfielder is all set to extend his stay at the Emirates beyond this season.
“Tomas Rosicky will stay,” Wenger said. “We have an agreement with him and it will come out soon. I am absolutely adamant he has to stay at the club.”
Rosicky was dubbed ‘Little Mozart’ when he arrived at Arsenal in 2006 but has since overcome a string of injuries to evolve into an all-round midfielder that Wenger calls upon in the biggest games. It was a surprise, though, that he left him out of the line-up in their defeat to Bayern Munich last week.
“When he arrived, he was less a tactical player and more the Mozart from Prague,” Wenger said. “He was purely a creative, offensive player. But today, he is a real organiser as well. He gives a real structure to the team.
“He is one of the players who plays the game of give-and-move and he is a great accelerator of the game. He always makes things happen, not with individual dribbling but with individual acceleration of his passing and his runs. His goal was one of the top goals we have scored.”
His goal against Sunderland was Rosicky’s first in the league this season.
