Arsenal may have recorded a morale boosting FA Cup victory over Liverpool on Sunday, but are likely to field a much changed side for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich at the Emirates. Arsene Wenger insisted after the Liverpool game that the seven changes that his side showed from their 0-0 draw with Manchester United were enforced upon him, but is likely to recall five of his key men for the visit of the European champions, report the Express.
Bacaray Sagna, Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud and Kieran Gibbs are all likely to return to the Arsenal side for the Bayern clash, handing Wenger a significant injury boost.
While Sagna and Giroud both sat out the Liverpool clash through tiredness, the other three players have shaken off injuries to play against Bayern.
Gibbs has been suffering with a muscular problem which has seen Nacho Monreal start six of the side’s last seven league games in his place, but is likely to have recovered in time to face Bayern.
Ahead of Gibbs, in midfield, in form Santi Cazorla will return from illness and Jack Wilshere will play having missed the Liverpool win with a stiff back.
Arsenal face a tough test against last season’s European champions Bayern, and were eliminated from the competition at the same stage last season. The Gunners lost the opening leg of that tie 3-1 at The Emirates and will be keen to avoid another catastrophic home leg this year.
