Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to open talks with Chelsea striker, and Everton loanee, Romelu Lukaku in a possible £15 million deal.
The Belgian joined Everton in September on-loan and he has excelled on Merseyside. He is currently the clubs top goalscorer and has netted 14 times in the Premier League. Roberto Martinez is willing to wait until after the World Cup to solve Lukaku’s future, but he will now have a fight on his hands.
The forward will travel with the Belgium squad to take part in the World Cup in Brazil, but Martinez insisted he was not fazed if Lukaku impressed at the tournament thus increasing his price-tag at Chelsea.
However, Everton may have to act sooner rather than later as Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has made Lukaku his number one priority in the summer. Chelsea seem happy to offload the big striker off the wage bill, despite impressing in his two loan spells away from the club.
Lukaku shone for West Brom last season and came close to joining them again in the summer transfer window, before opting to join Everton just before the transfer deadline.
Spurs are set to bid £15million as soon as the season ends next weekend, but they face competition from Atletico Madrid according to the Metro.
Lukaku’s agent, Christope Henrotay, admits he is unsure of his clients future: ‘It’s all going to depend on Chelsea. We’ll see together what the best options are.
‘Chelsea need lots of great strikers. And if there are too many, they’ll choose to allow Romelu to leave.’Lukaku has bagged 15 goals in 32 matches for Everton this season.’
