Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is apparently growing disillusioned with life at the club and wants to return to Arsenal, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Dutchman joined United in the summer of 2012 from Arsenal for around £24 million and subsequently scored the goals that led the club to their 20th league title.
However, the mood for van Persie soon turned sour as Sir Alex Ferguson retired, leaving David Moyes the reigns at United. His tactics matched with van Persie’s poor fitness has seen the former Arsenal striker struggle this season and has scored just 11 goals in the Premier League.
The Red Devils are sixth in the league and some way off the top four spots, never mind the title race. They have also been knocked out of the FA Cup and lost in the Capital One Cup semi-final to Sunderland. To further add to their pain, United were beaten 2-0 in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie with Olympiakos, too.
All of this has led to van Persie becoming disillusioned at Old Trafford, apparently.
Van Persie recently hinted that he is beginning to question the methods of the current United boss, Moyes.
He said: “Certain managers can hit the right nerve with a player. They have that quality. As I have got older and more experienced, I have become more sensitive to what my coaches are doing.
“I want to know why we are we doing this or why are we training like that. I did not ask those kinds of questions when I was younger, but now I find it interesting to study why my coaches are making certain decisions.”
Robin van Persie has won almost as many tackles (9) as the number of goals he’s scored (11) in the Premier League.
