Championship side Wigan Athletic are looking into extending the current loan deal of Manchester United youngster, Nick Powell, according to Goal, with Swansea also reported to be interested in his services according to the Mirror.
Powell has been on a season-long loan deal with Wigan all season and has impressed immeasurably. He was signed for United by Sir Alex Ferguson from Crewe Alexandra and, despite scoring early in his United career, he was shipped out on-loan to earn some valuable first-team experience.
Latics manager Uwe Rosler wants to keep the forward for another 12 months – regardless of whether or not they earn promotion back to the Premier League, while the Swans are interested in a £5m deal to bring the midfielder to the Liberty Stadium.
Rosler plans to discuss the deal with United at the end of the season, while no decision has been made at Old Trafford regarding the 20-year-old’s future.
The forward was out of action for over a month after suffering an injury in January but has returned to the first-team squad and came off the bench to score the equaliser – his 12th goal of the season in all competitions – in a 1-1 draw with Bolton on Saturday.
Wigan have been in sensational form under Rosler and are among the Championship play-off places with eight games to play. He’s also led them to an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley with Arsenal next week as they defend their trophy after beating Manchester City in last year’s final.
Powell is Wigan’s top scorer in the league with seven goals.
