Liverpool are looking at Borussia Monchengaldbach’s Granit Xhaka as a possible successor for Steven Gerrard.The 21 year old has been likened to the Liverpool legend in the past and was recently linked with a move to Manchester United last summer.
Reports from England say that Liverpool’s boss Brendan Rodgers wants to prepare for life after Gerrard who turns 34 in June and believes that the former FC Basel midfielder would be an ideal successor.
The Switzerland international is a strong midfielder with a powerful shot and a good passing range in his arsenal.He has been a vital cog in the Monchengladbach and has helped them reach fourth position in Bundesliga this season.
Former Basel coach Thorsten Fink once said. “Xherdan Shaqiri is the best talent in Switzerland…after Granit Xhaka.” Whilst the Swiss National Football Coach, Ottmar Hitzfeld, has dubbed him the ‘young Schweinsteiger’.
The young midfielder moved to Germany in 2012 for a fee reported to be around €8.5 million.
Liverpool are said to have him on the top of their shopping list and would possibly cost around €18m.
