Thomas Vermaelen could be on his way to Russia as big spending Zenit St. Petersburg prepare to move for the defender in the summer.

The Belgian, who had a great start to his Arsenal career, has been relegated to the bench ever since a long term injury hampered his progress. The former Ajax man has managed only two starts in the Premier League this season.

The center back has lost his place to Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, who seem to be the prefered pairing at the back for Gunners manager Arsene Wenger.

With limited opportunities at the Emirates, the 28-year old will be despearate to move on in search of regular first team football. The Russian outfit, with money to burn, could land their target if they match Arsenal’s 10 million pound valuation for the player.
