In another twist in the Coentrao tale, the Portuguese left back might well be on his way to Manchester United with Real Madrid reportedly eyeing a summer swoop of Spain starlet Alberto Moreno. The 21-year-old Sevilla star has been linked with many top clubs, with the names of both United and Chelsea having been mentioned in the past few months.
Reports in Spain have suggested that Moreno, who has constantly been tipped for bigger things, is on Real Madrid’s radar, with the Spanish giants identifying him as one of their main summer targets. And although he signed a new contract increased his buyout clause to £25m and is set to keep him at Sevilla till 2018, the club are, according to AS ready to do business, for around half that amount.
Moreno has been in great form, over the past eighteen months, which has seen him earn a senior cap and his stock has been on the rise for some time now.. And although Rafa Benitez is also interested in bringing the Spaniard to Italy, Moreno has his heart set on staying in Spain and moving to the capital instead.
All of which mean that Real Madrid would be more than willing to part ways with Fabio Coentrao, who almost joined United last summer and has been on Moyes’s radar for quite a while now. Although Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that Real Madrid aren’t willing to do any business in January, the imminent arrival of a replacement and Coentrao’s willingness to move away from Madrid, in order to cement his World Cup berth, might well force Ancelotti’s hand.
Whilst it is still uncertain whether Ancelotti will be keen on letting the Portuguese left back go in January, particularly given injuries in defense, chances are that if he doesn’t sign in January, he is dead set on a move in the summer.
All of which should be music to the ears of Manchester United, who might finally be able to get their hands on their long-term target and adding to a squad that looks in dire need of some fresh blood.
