Manchester United are set to make a huge bid for Antoine Griezmann in the summer. The Red Devils have been noticeably short on firepower this season and are in desperate need of quality in attack.
Griezmann has once again proved himself to be one of the best players in the world scoring 29 goals in a big season for Atletico Madrid. The Red and Whites knocked out Barcelona from the UEFA Champions League and are hot on their heels in La Liga as well.
Louis Van Gaal has achieved a good defensive record, but his team have found it difficult at times to break down opposition defences. Anthony Martial has been exceptional in his debut season but the scoring burden cannot be placed entirely on a 20-year-old.
Wayne Rooney seems to have found a better role in the team playing as the No 10 rather than the lone striker up front where he hasn’t been as effective. Griezmann despite not being an out and out striker has a knack of scoring a lot of goals.
At one point, he was only behind Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the number of goals scored in the last three seasons in La Liga. He will definitely be a big lift for the squad and will no doubt make the club title contenders for next season.
Griezmann of course, will not come cheaply. According to The Sun, the club are preparing a £65 million bid for the Frenchman to pry him away from Madrid. Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the forward and will battle it out with the Red Devils for his signature.
Louis Van Gaal wanted two-year contract
Several fans have not been happy with LvG’s reign. But he has turned things around somewhat in recent weeks. The Dutchman is set to stay for another year at Old Trafford but had an admission to make about his contract length.
“We spoke about that (at the start) and we have a process of three years. I want to sign for two years, they want three years, not I.” said the manager before the match against Leicester City.
United host Leicester City today in what is probably the biggest match of the season. The Foxes will make history, defying all odds if they win the title. Having being almost relegated last year, this has truly been a fairytale for the club.
