Jose Mourinho is taking this transfer window by storm. With the possibility of a major overhaul to the existing Manchester United squad, he is looking to add more players to an already impressive unit, as he prepares to kick off United’s Premier League campaign before they play The Foxes in the Community Shield.
We will have to wait a few more days to see whether FA Cup champions Manchester United, can beat Premier League winners Leicester City in the Community Shield this Sunday. But currently, United are in the pole position to beat The Foxes in the race to sign a promising winger.
Mourinho is believed to be in search of yet another forward to bolster his attacking squad and he sees the 20-year old Curacao international, Liandro Martis, a perfect fit. According to reports, Martis he has been pictured in the Carrington training ground. The player is currently on trial with United, and an offer is expected to be tabled before the youngster shortly.
Earlier, Martis was on trial with Oldham Athletic club where he impressed Red Devils scouts. He was offered a deal by the Latics which he turned down before being offered a trial for a day by Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri. He kept his options open before he earned another trial call up from the United officials.
Expressing the situation the Curacaoan added, “I went into Leicester for a day and felt comfortable and got an offer. Then I went into Manchester United for a week and received good feedback from Warren Joyce and could have earned a deal had I waited, but I just want to get my career started.”
The youngster continued saying, "I am confident in my ability. I've played a number of games to obtain fitness and have done well. I played against League Two team Crewe and scored and laid on an assist and then played in a game with Tranmere where I help set up a number of goals before I went Oldham and scored against a Championship team Preston.”
"Oldham have offered me a deal and we have been in negotiations for two weeks. I am nearing a decision on my future and I want to make the right decision for the next stage of my career."
He was training with the United U-23 team last week after he impressed United scouts while playing for the Latics in their pre-season defeat to Lancashire rivals Preston. Leicester manager Ranieri is keen to bring the ex-Feyenoord player to the King Power stadium. However, it will be difficult for the player to turn down a chance that will see him playing alongside the likes of Ibrahimovic and Rooney.
The winger has represented his country, Curacao, in U-17 and U-20 category as well, scoring a combined 3 goals in the process. It is speculated that if everything falls into place the winger might well be Mourinho’s 4th signing of the summer.
