Rupert Murdoch, who owns a global broadcasting company, is planning a summer football competition which is likely to feature top European clubs, including English Premier League sides. The matches will be played in the cities all round the world, confirmed the sources from the company.
Major English clubs including the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea would be sent invitations to participate in this ambitious tournament. Reports also suggest that the premier clubs from other top European leagues would be invited to compete as well. Clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are supposedly on the company’s radar.
The broadcasting tycoon’s company is reportedly framing out a plan of it being a 16-team tournament, which would run for 10 years. According to the company sources, the tournament might potentially kick-off in 2015 and will be played in the off season when the clubs play exhibition matches.
