Ruud van Nistelrooy has stuck his comments on Manchester United’stransfer plans for the summer, claiming his former club should target Edinson Cavani over Radamel Falcao.
Both Ligue 1 stars have been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer, with both reportedly open to moves away from Paris St Germain and Monaco respectively after failing to settle in France following summer moves.
Nistelrooy could sympathise with the plight of Falcao who is currently sidelined with a knee ligament injury ahead of any potential move to the Premier League, but feels simply that Cavani is what United need in the striking department currently, as Falcao is more of a ‘pure number nine’, while the Uruguayan is more rounded to an interlinking game with Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie.
The Dutchman told reporters, “Cavani? I think he is a very good player.
“In my view he would be a very good signing, but he has also recently signed for a big team.
“It will be expensive. But there is also Falcao. He may be an option for a pure number sign, to score goals.
“I think that with Rooney and Van Persie, David Moyes needs more than just a big scorer in his team.”
United could be encouraged by news from FIFA agent Francois Gallardo, who has suggested that Cavani is unsettled at PSG and could look to engineer a move away from the club – however, he believes that Real Madrid would be his preferred destination.
Gallardo said, “There is a player on the staff of PSG who is not comfortable, who wants to leave – and he is called Cavani.
“If Real Madrid were looking for a crack attacker, we are now approaching the time to do business.”
