Rwanda host Libya at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Thursday for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Aiming to end a 20-year wait for their second AFCON appearance, the Wasps are looking to win their second game of the campaign.
So far, they have accumulated only five points from four qualifier games, and sit in third position in Group D, one behind second-placed Benin.
With only two more games remaining, Torsten Spittler's side cannot afford to drop more points in their ambitions of reaching the Moroccan showpiece.
On the contrary, Libya are rock-bottom with just a single point in the bag. Interestingly, that point came courtesy of a 1-1 stalemate in this fixture back in September.
Subhi Al-Dhawi put the Mediterranean Knights in front after 16 minutes before Innocent Nshuti restored parity for the Wasps in the second half.
But since then, it's gone downhill for the North African side. They have lost consecutively to Benin and Nigeria before a 3-0 win was awarded for the Super Eagles in their next game. Their squad was left stranded at the airport in Bayda for more than 12 hours, leading them to forfeit the fixture, while Libya was also fined for what was described as 'mind games'.
