Ryan Giggs has hit back at claims from Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers than new Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal will find it more difficult to manage in England than in the Netherlands, Spain and Germany.
The Dutchman has got off to a promising start with victories over LA Galaxy, AS Roma, Inter Milan (via penalties), Real Madrid and Liverpool during the tour of the United States in the International Champions Cup.Rodgers had earlier claimed that the 62-year-old will be shocked by the level of competition in England, but the retired Welsh winger doesn’t agree.
"He's not going to be overwhelmed.
"Even the manager has realised how big this club is in the short space of time he has been here. The crowds for friendlies are 'unbelievable' in his words.
"He's managed at the top level for a long, long time and won't be intimidated or afraid of managing Manchester United.", Giggs said.
Manchester United finished 7th after a wretched season under Scotsman David Moyes and will be looking to rebuild under the new regime. The former Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Ajax manager is known to be an organised leader with a reputation of giving minute attention to detail.
"He's a great character. He is, first and foremost, a leader and demands respect, demands discipline and a real sort of detailed structure," Giggs added.
"But, within that structure, there is obviously freedom to move. It's been great. The players have really enjoyed it so far and I certainly have.
"Everything is structured and really detailed. The lads have all enjoyed all the things that have come that are a little bit different. Right down to meeting for breakfast, and for lunch, and even the team meetings that we have. Plus the training."
Manchester United begin their Premier League campaign with a clash against Rodger’s previous club Swansea at Old Trafford but play a friendly against Valencia just four days prior to it.
