Manchester United veteran footballer Ryan Giggs could be set to postpone his retirement after suggesting that he is interested in prolonging the end to a glittering career by one season. The Welshman’s contract with United expires this summer and despite reports claiming that this could be his last season, Giggs appears to have brushed off those rumors by hinting at a one-year contract extension.
“It’s almost that time when I’ll sit down with the manager and see what his plans are and I’ll see how I’m feeling [about] playing for another season,” he told the club’s official website.
“At the moment I feel really good and I’m enjoying things more than ever, so we’ll just have to wait and see.”
The 38 year old midfielder has barely featured this season, but was absolutely influential in United’s recent 5-0 away at Fulham. It’s not a suprise to many that Giggs is capable of playing at the centre of the park but his performances against Fulham was on a class of his own. Alongside Michael Carrick, Giggs slotted seamlessly while also dictating the proceedings in midfield.
He added: “I love playing there. I’ve made no secret of that and it’s probably my preferred position now.
“I said the other night it’s a joy for me and Michael to play in midfield when you’ve got the movement in front of you like we had at Fulham.
“It makes our job so much easier when you’ve got three or four players making great runs when you’re on the ball.“
Giggs’ goal against Fulham meant that he has now scored in each and every Premier League season since it’s inauguration in 1992.
