After going through an uphill battle, Malaysia’s midfielder Safiq Rahim was absolutely delighted when he was honored by the Malaysian Football Association and sports channel Astro Arena, as the Best Midfielder in the country. Safiq, who is currently having a trial with Cardiff City, expressed his happiness and takes the recognition as a motivation to wax his performance.

“In the end, it’s all about hard work and a bit of luck of course. I count myself fortunate because both have blended well for me.”

“Recalling all the sacrifice I had to make, it is very worthwhile.

“The award is considered present in a timely manner especially when I’m working hard to impress Cardiff.

“This is my best opportunity to join Cardiff. This is a very rare opportunity, and I need to grab it.”

Safiq Rahim admits that there is a significant difference in term of speed and level of play between Asia and England.

“The pattern and pace of the game is very different here, I had to increase my fitness level and be more disciplined during training sessions.

“I have learned a lot of new experiences and lessons, which will be a useful for me in the future.”

Although Safiq is aware that his fitness levels are a long way from matching those of the players at Cardiff, he does not feel small at the club.

Last year, Safiq managed to win both the AFF Suzuki cup success and the league title with Malaysian based club Selangor. With things looking up for him, he will looking to making it all count.
