San Marino and Gibraltar return to action in the UEFA Nations League when they lock horns at the San Marino Stadium on Friday. Julio Ribas’ men, who have enjoyed an unbeaten campaign so far, will look to keep the juggernaut rolling this weekend and secure automatic promotion from League D.
San Marino were left empty-handed once again as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Andorra when the two nations squared off in a friendly at the Estadi Nacional on October 13.
With that result, Roberto Cevoli’s side have lost three games on the trot across all competitions, conceding four goals and failing to find the back of the net since September 10.
San Marino turn their attention to the UEFA Nations League, where they kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Liechtenstein on September 5, one month before losing by the same scoreline against Gibraltar at the Europa Sports Complex.
Gibraltar, on the other hand, were denied consecutive victories in the Nations League last time out when they played out a goalless draw with Liechtenstein in Vaduz.
Before that, Ribas’ men got the campaign underway with a 2-2 draw against Liechtenstein in September before scraping a narrow 1-0 win over San Marino on October 10.
Gibraltar have picked up five points from their three Nations League matches to sit top of the Group D1 standings, two points above second-placed San Marino, who have one game in hand.
