According to reports, Real Madrid’s legendary Santiago Bernabéu stadium will be renamed to ‘Abu Dhabi Bernabéu stadium’. The International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) of United Arab Emirates had signed a deal to finance the Spanish giants for the redevelopment of the iconic stadium.
The Guardian has revealed that there could be a possible name change of the historic stadium. The current European champions have not yet confirmed the change, but club president Florentino Perez was caught on camera confessing to the fact.
The investment company is owned by the UAE government and they put in £15 million a year on the stadium
The club will follow in Arsenal and Manchester City’s footsteps, who changed their stadium names as per their sponsors. The Madrid based team’s home stadium was named in 1955, as a tribute to their former chairman Santiago Bernabéu.
