Schalke have confirmed they have completed a deal in signing FC Basel striker Breel Embolo on Sunday.
The 19-year-old is pipped to become one of the brightest prospects for Switzerland and his impressive club form has seen him lead his national side in the ongoing European championship in France. Sadly for him and Switzerland, they were eliminated from Euro 2016 by Poland after they lost on penalties.
Embolo has signed a five year deal with the Bundesliga outfit, which will keep him at Schalke until 2021. However, the transfer fee has not been disclosed by the German side.
“Schalke have completed the signing of Switzerland international Breel Embolo for an undisclosed fee. The 19-year-old joins the Royal Blues from Swiss giants FC Basel and has agreed a five-year deal at the club until 30th June 2021,” a statement read on Schalke’s official website.
Christian Heidel, Schalke’s sporting director expressed his side’s delight after his side were successful in capturing Embolo.
“In Breel Embolo, we have been able to bring in a highly talented attacker, who already has a lot of international experience and was also in demand at several other top European clubs,” Heidel told the club’s official website.
Embolo was attracting interest from top clubs across Europe. The list includes the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona. However, it is Schalke who have won the race for his signature.
They even took on social networking site Twitter to confirm they have beaten the European giants for the striker’s signature. Schalke made a video and confirmed they have beaten Arsneal, United and Barcelona among the host of clubs interested in signing the Swiss international.
