Schalke general manager Horst Heldt rejected claims that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is in talks with Liverpool, reports Goal.
The Dutch forward has been linked with a move to Anfield recently, but now both the player and Schalke have dismissed the paper talk as baseless speculation.
Earlier in the week, Huntelaar distanced himself from a move to Liverpool, branding the rumours as “nonsense”.
“Of course sometimes I get a text message from people around me,” he said.
“I think it’s all nonsense.
“No-one has informed my agent and I am not talking about the interest from clubs. I am concentrating on the [World Cup].”
Horst Heldt mirrored the 30-year-old striker’s sentiments, telling the club’s official website that Schalke have no intention to sell the former Real Madrid hitman.
“Most recently, I’ve read that Liverpool should have interest in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
“Liverpool, Klaas-Jan and also his adviser have not contacted us.
“And we also have no interest in selling the player.”
Huntelaar has express his desire to stay with the Bundesliga outfit next season but will only enter discussions over a renewed contract when the World Cup concludes.
The PSV youth product is currently on intentional duty with Netherlands in Brazil ahead of Oranje‘s semi-final clash against Argentina. He scored a crucial last-minute penalty against Mexico in their 2-1 Round-of-16 win, coming of the substitutes bench to complete Netherlands comeback.
Huntelaar had an on and off domestic season for Schalke, he scored an impressive 12 goals in just 18 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit. While he had a shot accuracy of 52%, earning a Squawka Performance Score of 380.
