Scotland’s 3-2 loss to England has come as a huge disappointment to the Scottish coach Gordon Strachan, who admitted that his team lost vitality in the late second half. He said that it was “hugely disappointing” as they twice let a lead slip.
The Scots had taken an early lead with James Morrison on target, but within 15 minutes an equaliser from Theo Walcott leveled the terms. Four minutes after beginning of the second half, the visitors again restored the lead when Kenny Miller got the better of Gary Cahill but it was soon cancelled by Danny Welbeck‘s goal.
It was Lambert’s dramatic introduction by heading the ball in for a goal that turned out to be the match-winning moment.
On talking to Sky Sports about the team’s performance, the Scottish coach said, “We had a problem physically in the last 20 minutes.
“We were trying everything to score an equaliser. I tried to keep Shaun (Maloney) on as long as possible.
“If you look at it, when we had 11 men and in free [open] play, England couldn’t score. They scored when we were down to 10 men [Grant Hanley was off for treatment when Walcott hit England's first goal] and they scored from set plays, which was hugely disappointing.
“But there are top players in that England side. We have good players. To get great victories, we have to make no mistakes whatsoever.”
