Robin Van Persie has suffered yet another injury which will keep him out of action for another month. The former Arsenal man’s future has been put into question during recent times with rumors linking Van Persie with Spanish giants Barcelona. As we near the January window, let’s look at three possible strikers that Moyes can look into, should the Dutch International leave them.
Jay Rodriguez
It may seem unlikely, but as Manchester United are currently sitting in 9th place, they must lower their expectations, as if they are not competing at the top of the table, they aren’t going to attract top of the table players. Rodriguez has played well for Southampton this season, and has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, but United could step in with a bid in January. However, there is no guarantee that he will want to leave Southampton, as they have been a revelation under Mauricio Pochettino, and he has been a big part of their attack, meaning that he may want to stay and see exactly what the Saints can achieve this season.
Michu
One of the Premier League’s standout players last season, Michu has struggled for consistency this term, but would still be of interest to the Premier League’s bigger clubs. If Arsenal weren’t quoted a huge price tag for the Spaniard, he could be calling the Emirates Stadium his home. After a less impressive campaign, his market value will have declined a little, and should be available for a lot more cheaper than last summer. A player who showed immense capabilities not so long ago, when put alongside quality players can give you their best.
The most unlikely on the list, Mario Mandzukic is not likely going to willingly leave the reigning German and European champions for a team sitting in mid-table in the Premier League. Though it seems that all is needed is confirmation of Robert Lewandowski’s move to Bavaria, and it is unlikely that the Croatian International is going to want to sit on the bench, and will be seeking a move to a club where he will be used.
