Rio de Janeiro, Feb 4 (IANS) Veteran Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf dedicated his hat-trick in Botafogo’s 3-1 win against Macae in Brazil’s Campeonato Carioca to his late grandfather.
The 36-year-old cancelled out Jones’ opener by sliding in from close range at the Moacyrzao Stadium in Macae before adding two second half penalties, Sunday night, reports Xinhua.
After the match the former AC Milan and Real Madrid star dedicated the performance to his late grandfather, who died last month.
“I want to dedicate this victory to him and to my whole family,” a tearful Seedorf said.
“I am happy because we maintained our composure and have managed to get a very important win for this club.”
The result lifted Botafogo above Vasco da Gama to the top of Group A with 11 points from five games.
