Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry has announced that he will be representing Germany instead of Ivory Coast at the international stage.
The 18 year old was eligible to play for both the nations as his father, Jean-Hermann Gnabry, is from the Ivory Coast and his mother is German. Gnabry, who was born in Germany, told Die Welt, “Since I have played for the Germany youth teams, it is no question for me that I want to play for Germany by any means.
“I hope that I can make the leap into the first team.”
Gnabry has had an impressive season for Arsenal after making his Debut last season and has moved from strength to strength, even capturing the attention of Joachim Low despite the fact that there are some impressive players already in the German national team.
However, Gnabry remained cautious and said that he needs to keep his form if he wants to play for Germany in the future, “I am fully focused on Arsenal in order to win minutes there.
“Because, to be honest, if that does not happen, making the national team will be extremely difficult. We will see what happens in the future,” he added.
Gnabry has represented Germany at the U-16, U-17, U-18 and U-19 levels and has scored a total of 10 goals.
