FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets will miss his side’s clash against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday due to a ligament injury on his right ankle which he sustained during the Catalan giant’s 3-1 semifinal win over Villarreal during the Copa del Ray on Wednesday.
The extent of the injury is still uncertain. He was declared unavailable for the game after tests were conducted on him on Thursday and there is still no clarity over when he would return to action.
“In the 39th minute of FC Barcelona's 3–1 win over Villarreal, midfielder Sergio Busquets suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle. Busquets will undergo more tests on Thursday to discover the exact extent of the injury according to the Club's medical staff,” a statement released on the club’s official website read.
The Nou Camp-based side has a lot of important encounters coming up in the next weeks, including the second leg of the round of 16 Champions League tie with Premier League title holders Manchester City at home on March 19.
This was further followed by another big game against rivals Real Madrid on March 23rd at home.
