Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos will be out for at least a month after the clubs medical team diagnosed the player with a dislocated shoulder. The Spaniard sustained the injury during their Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.
Nacho Fernandes was the player who replaced the 29-year-old in the match where Real went on to win 4-0. While Ramos was in agony, Cristiano Ronaldo stole the show after scoring his third Champions League hat-trick.
After undergoing a scan, the club released a statement that spoke about the World Cup winner’s injury: "Following the tests carried out on Sergio Ramos today in the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, the player has been diagnosed with dislocated acromioclavicular joint in his left shoulder."
Ramos has been crucial a crucial player for Los Blancos, and it will definitely be tough for the club to manage without his presence in their defensive back four. The player has had some of his best games in the Champions League, with one of it coming in the 2013-14 Champions League final against neighbors Atletico Madrid.
He scored an equalizing goal for Real in stoppage time which allowed the team to go ahead and win their long-awaited “La Decima”.
Wales to learn about extent of Bale’s injury on Thursday
Gareth Bale’s fitness is also of concern as the player was taken off 32 minutes into the game and was replaced by their new signing Mateo Kovacic.
While not much is known about Bale’s injury at the moment, Benitez had the following to say: "He had a spasm in the calf muscle. We have to wait one or two days. He had a similar problem last year."
The 26-year old has been in prime form recently and has already managed to score two goals and assist thrice in the short span of three games.
Bale's injury would be a bigger worry for the Welsh football team, as the team have been reliant on the player throughout the qualifying stages. He scored six times for his national team, and have been crucial in their unbeaten run.
Wales who only needs one point from their remaining two group-stage matches – one against Bosnia-Herzegovina on October 10 and the other against Andorra three days – later to qualify, are especially worried as this would be the first major competition the country would qualify since 1958.
Another Real Madrid player who also got injured on Tuesday was French defender Raphael Varane. While Bale’s and Ramos’ injury seem serious, Varane’s is comparatively less worrying.
