Yesterday marked seven years since Chelsea travelled to play newly promoted Reading in the Premier League.
After just 20 seconds Stephen Hunt left his knee in when chasing a long ball striking Petr Cech in the head in what looked like a deliberate foul. Cech stayed down and was stretched off having fractured his skull in an injury that would rule him out for months and mean he will wear supportive headwear for the rest of his career.
He was stretchered off and replaced by the reliable Carlo Cudicini, who kept a clean sheet for more than 85 minutes until in the 3rd minute of stoppage time at the end of the game was clattered by Sonko knocking him unconscious.
Cudicini was on the floor for more than 5 minutes but with a player down after a Mikel sending off and three subs used John Terry had to survive a few minutes in goal with the team down to 9 men and the Royals hunting an equaliser.
Cech and Cudicini eventually made a full recovery although it took a couple of years for Cech to get back to his best. Stephen Hunt earned himself the eternal damnation of Chelsea fans specially reserved for him and Dean Saunders.
