Sevilla 3-2 Real Madrid: Player Ratings

Sevilla v Real Madrid - La Liga
Real Madrid suffered their sixth defeat in the league this campaign

Sevilla beat Real Madrid 3-2 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in a midweek league fixture to keep their hopes of securing a European place alive. Goals from Wissam Ben Yedder and Miguel Layun gave the Andalusians a two-goal advantage at halftime.

Similarly, luck was on their side when Sergio Ramos sent his penalty crashing into the woodwork before Sevilla practically wrapped up the tie with a third goal that was helped by a deflection of Ramos.

But, Real had not given up just yet as a goal from Borja Mayoral in the final stages sparked a comeback from the Galacticos. However, they fell short despite Ramos converting his spot kick in the 95th minute, running out of time as Sevilla clinched the win.

The defeat for Madrid meant that Zidane's men ruined their chances of going level on points with Atletico Madrid as they remain three points behind their city rivals on the league table.

On that note, here is a look at the player ratings:

Sergio Escudero - 7/10

Escudero was remarkable defensively, breaking up Real's attack on several instances as he completed four interceptions.

Clément Lenglet - 6/10

Unlike his partner, Lenglet did not make a whole lot of tackles or interceptions but he was present in the box all the time when needed guarding his goal.

Nicolas Pareja - 7/10

The Argentinian combated the threat of Los Blancos attack very well, putting the ball out of danger as he made six clearances.

Gabriel Mercado - 7/10

Mercado did a good job defensively against the likes of Marco Asensio. However, Sevilla's third goal wasn't rewarded in his name since the ball had already crossed the line before he tapped it in.

Steven N'Zonzi - 7/10

N'Zonzi pass to Layun helped in laying the foundation for the second goal and giving Sevilla a commanding lead at the break. His aerial advantage came into play massively as he outmuscled his opponents, winning four aerial duels in the middle of the park.

Guido Pizarro - 6/10

Pizarro did a good job in midfield, winning the ball back but at the same time, he was very rash and reckless in his challenges as he committed five fouls that deservingly brought him a yellow card.

Franco Vázquez - 6/10

The 29-year-old put in a consistent performance, being present in the attacking third of the pitch, creating and setting up chances for both himself and also his teammates.

Miguel Layún - 7/10

Layun scored right on the stroke of halftime to give Sevilla a significant margin of breathing space heading into the second half.

It was a mediocre performance put in by the Colombian as he lost the ball five times and had just one shot on goal before being substituted off right after the hour mark.

Wissam Ben Yedder - 8/10

Ben Yedder provided Sevilla the lead at a timely moment when his team were being dominated by Real Madrid. He was very good in the air too as he won three aerial battles and getting involved in the build-up at certain stages, completing two key passes.

Sandro had a good amount of time to make an impact but he didn't have much involvement in the game in spite of having two shots at goal.

Replaced Franco Vazquez in the 78th minute to provide defensive cover in midfield.

Daniel Carriço - N/A

Carrico made his return from injury, replacing Ben Yedder in the 81st minute.

Real Madrid

Sevilla v Real Madrid - La Liga
Ramos had a horrific night against his former club

Kiko Casilla - 6/10

Other than letting three goals in, it was a busy night for Casilla despite Real Madrid having control of the game as Sevilla fired six shots at him.

He can consider himself unlucky on the third goal since a deflection off Sergio Ramos meant that he had basically no time in preventing the ball from going into the net.

Sergio Ramos - 4/10

The Real Madrid captain had a miserable game, firstly missing a penalty as he smashed the ball into the woodwork and then his left-footed volley went way over the goal. The night couldn't get any worse for him when a deflection off him flicked the ball over the goalkeeper, leading to Sevilla's third which was awarded as a Ramos own goal.

However, he did score at his third attempt, converting a spot kick in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Jesus Vallejo - 6/10

It wasn't the best of games for the young Spaniard as he did face problems against the Seville attack which led to many failed attempts at challenges.

Theo Hernández - 6/10

Theo picked was fouled four times in the entire game but the last one proved to be decisive yet late since he earned Real a penalty in stoppage time.

Nacho - 7/10

Nacho was up to the mark while tracking back on defense, making seven successful tackles and four clearances.

Casemiro - 7/10

Casemiro, as usual, had an attacking presence in the game, as he created some half chances and completed 10 long balls on the other hand during his 86 minute stay on the pitch.

Dani Ceballos - 6/10

Ceballos made only his third start of the league season and had a decent game, showcasing his potential as made full use of his opportunity before being taken off in the 69th minute.

Mateo Kovacic - 6/10

The Croatian had a pass completion rate of 95%, contributing with two key passes and eight successful long balls.

Karim Benzema - 5/10

Leading the line, it was another disappointing shift put in by the Frenchman as his irregular run of form was evident, managing to have only two attempts at goal.

Marco Asensio - 7/10

Asensio completed four dribbles and put in a perfect cross to Borja Mayoral that helped Real in pegging a goal back in their efforts to pull off a late comeback.

Lucas Vázquez - 4/10

Vazquez put in a below par performance, losing the ball on five different instances as well as failing to put in any successful crosses in the entire game. It was a surprise that he wasn't taken off as he had very little influence in the game.

Substitutes

Borja Mayoral - 7/10

Coming on in the 69th minute, Mayoral scored through as a result of a header to pull one goal back for Real.
