Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido has said his club rejected a 17 million euro ($22.1m, £14.5m) bid from West Ham for Spanish international Alvaro Negredo back in April.

The Andalusians accepted an offer of around 20 million euros for their other Spanish international star, Jesus Navas, on Monday night and Del Nido is hoping that the money generated from that transfer will mean they will be able to keep ahold of Negredo over the coming months.

“When he had scored 16 goals this season, in the game against Athletic Bilbao, West Ham offered 17 million with three million more in add-ons,” he told the club’s website on Tuesday.

“We didn’t value the offer and the player rejected it.”

The 27-year-old went onto net 31 times in all competitions this season, including four on the final day as Sevilla ended Valencia‘s hopes of Champions League football with a 4-2 win.

And Del Nido insists it will take a special offer for the club to consider letting him go.

“He has four more years on his contract and he is happy here.

“He scores goals in bunches, we have been delighted with his football and he has shown that he is a true star.

“The summer will tell if he stays with us or not, but if you ask for my opinion I would prefer not to get an extraordinary offer.”
