Should loan players be allowed to play against their parent clubs?

Arsene Wenger has sparked a debate in football after stating that he believes loan players should not have a restriction for playing against their parent clubs. I am asking you all this morning whether or not that should be the case?

At the moment Romelu Lukaku is on fire, scoring goals for Everton at will and playing really, really well. At the moment, due to Premier League rules, he is not allowed to play against his parent club. I am wondering if you agree that this should be the case because at the end of the day, his contract belongs to Chelsea.

What would you think about these rules being taken away and Lukaku being free to play against Chelsea? How would that make you as a Chelsea supporter feel?

The problem with this whole situation is the perception of the player and his performance on the day isn’t it! If he plays badly, people will say that he is because he doesn’t want to do anything to harm his parent club and if he plays well against them, the supporters of his parent club will complain and it could harm his relationship with the club itself.

My own personal opinion is that the rule should stay as it is. For example, we know Lukaku (and others) is on loan for the season at Everton. Now give or take the first few games, he has a chance to be involved in around 30 or so Premier League games and Cup games for their club including the two he misses against us.

That is and should be more than enough without questions being raised by Arsene Wenger!

What do you people think? Should a player deemed surplus to a club’s requirements for the season be allowed to play against that club while on loan with someone else?

I would love to hear as many opinions as possible on this.
