Four weeks gone, without a single win at the start of the season. Worst Premier League start in nearly a 100 years. What could have gone wrong for Brendan Rodgers at his start of the career at Anfield?
With only two strikers available as first-team options (one of them still unrecognisable as a striker), and the lack of any backup, the situation might become very difficult for Rodgers. However, with a number of unproven young talents in the LFC camp, Rodgers can still make an impact in the Premier League.
When Rodgers came to Liverpool, he came with a vision. He wanted to give Liverpool a whole new dimension of play, which he successfully implemented when he was at Swansea.
After his arrival he started to offload the players who he thought didn’t fit his strategy. Anfield’s respected Dirk Kuyt, and Maxi Rodriguez were out before the start of the season, and no one now cares where Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson are.
But things didn’t go as expected for Rodgers, as he managed to sign only Fabio Borini as a striker, and sent Carroll out on loan.
Rodgers was definitely expecting to bring Clint Dempsey at the club, or at least another striker, but failed to do so.
Now, after four weeks, many are of the opinion that even Carroll would have been a better option, as he was showing signs of improvement and had a successful Euro campaign in the England jersey.
Today, Liverpool are definitely lagging in their goal scoring arsenal. They had a lot of possession, and created numerous chances, but lacked a clinical finisher.
This could be the right time for Rodgers to unveil his talented youngsters. Rodgers has successfully brought Sterling to the fore, with more talents like Suso, Pacheco and Samed Yesil waiting in the wings. Each of them have excelled for their country’s junior teams, and have already emerged as fan favourites for Liverpool.
As Liverpool now facing issues upfront, this could be the ideal time for the youngsters to grab the opportunity (if only the manager gives them chance). We have seen Rooney and Owen making their mark as early as 18 years old, and there is no reason why these youngsters can’t, either.
They are not short on talent. It’s only a matter of time that they adapt to the rusty and physical play of the Premier League.
The Borini and Suarez pairing is not scoring enough goals for the side, so it shouldn’t be a bad option to rotate them with the young lads, more so as there will be plenty of matches ahead to play them in, be it the Europa League, the FA Cup, the Capital One Cup, and also the league.
Liverpool have always produced great young talents at Anfield, and these players are not short of confidence to play at the higher levels. Dalglish showed faith in the youth by playing Shelvey, Spearing, Flanagan, Kelly alongside the senior team.
The time has come again for the young lads to shine for the LFC. Let your goals do all the talking. YNWA.
