Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson spoke to BT Sport recently about the tactics he employed as a manager, the progress made by Manchester United under the managerial tenure of Louis van Gaal, the genius of Eric Cantona and what he thinks of Jose Mourinho as a person and a manager.
Ferguson, who retired at the end of the 2012/13 season, after having accomplished his mission of reclaiming the Premier League title from Manchester City, was quite open when it came to answering the questions asked.
He insisted that what Louis van Gaal had managed to achieve despite all the injury problems that were affecting United, was nothing short of outstanding, and was confident that the team would be “flying” when all the players make their returns from their injury lay-offs.
When asked what he thought of Jose Mourinho, Sir Alex said, “It is not fair at all, he looks like George Clooney, he has those white bits in his hair now, but I think he is a great example of how a coach should be. He was learning all the time, under Sir Bobby Robson and Louis van Gaal. He had this determination to be a coach.”
