Twenty-five and a half years and still counting. Being the manager of the most popular football club on the planet, Sir Alex Ferguson isn’t just a name anymore. Its now a personality that is known and will always be known to the Sports Entertainment. 12 times English Champions, 5 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 10 Community Shields, 2 times European Champions, once UEFA Super Cup Champions and once FIFA Club World Cup Winners. So, will the world be able to see an ‘another Sir Alex’?
Alexander Chapman Ferguson born in Glasgow, Scotland in the year 1941 managed a club like Aberdeen FC before becoming the legendary manager of Manchester United Football Club. Becoming the successor of Sir Matt Busby wasn’t an easy task however.
Sir Matt Busby left behind a memorable history for the club including the European Victory in 1968. The memories include the Munich Air Crash on 6th February, 1958. When appointed as the new manager of the Manchester United FC, everyone actually knew the capability of Sir Alex but never even in their dreams would have thought that Sir Alex would fill the United trophy cabinet with so much silverware. Once appointed, there was a great history to be written by Sir Alex on the doors of Old Trafford. The year Sir Alex was appointed the manager at Old Trafford club, Manchester United had won 7 English League Titles. And indeed, no one knew that in the coming years, Sir Alex would be person to win 12 League Titles wich makes a total of 19 League Titles for the Old Trafford club.
When once asked by media what was the main objective of managing United, “My greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool right off their bloody perch,” Ferguson said. “And you can print that.” This attitude of Sir Alex actually stated how determined he was to win the titles for United. And then Sir Alex and team secured the 19th title with a 1–1 draw away to Blackburn Rovers on 14 May 2011. It clearly seemed it was the best day of Sir Alex Ferguson’s life. The treble victory by Sir Alex and his class of ’92 men in the year 1999 was the brightest season in the career of Sir Alex. After winning the Champions League Final in 1999 against Bayern Munich on 26 May at Camp Nou in Barcelona in the most dramatic way it would had happened, Sir Alex said, “I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it. Football. Bloody hell.”
Now, Sir Alex is at the age of 70 and is still busy in his managerial career at Manchester. But we all can understand that more or less, it would end in a gap of couple of years. It would rightly be the time to say good bye for the best manager on the planet and thank him for all he contributed to the global football. And the question is, is there or will there be an another such manager? It’s hard to say! There is a list of managers who are capable of doing so, but would they? ‘The Special One’, Pep Guardiola and the names keep on adding in the list. For some managers, success is guaranteed. But will it be enough to compare with the success of Sir Alex’s career? Some managerial personalities are known to the world of football, some aren’t. But it’s not the end of the world! New personalities will be born. New talents will be called! The world would not forget the story and success of Mr. Ferguson. But is the next Sir Alex arriving?
