Mikael Silvestre
Silvestre missed most of the double winning season due to a knee ligament injury, being sidelined for over six months. He moved to Arsenal at the end of the season, and was the first choice left back at the London-based club.
In 2010, he was released by Arsenal and moved to Werder Bremen on a free transfer. Two years later, he left Bremen and began training with his former club, Manchester United. Silvestre eventually moved to the MLS where he tried out for Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers.
He joined the latter on a two-year deal, but an ACL tear left him out for most of the season. After his contract expired in 2014, the Frenchman joined ISL team Chennaiyin FC, where he played 14 games before eventually retiring. Post-retirement, he took up the director of football role at Rennes, leaving on mutual terms in late 2016.
Tomasz Kuszczak
Kuszczak was the backup keeper in the squad, behind Edwin van der Sar. Kuszczak had a fallout with Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012, with Sir Alex not allowing the keeper to go out on loan to Leeds United. In February that year, Kuszczak joined Watford on an emergency loan, with the hope of first team football.
On 1st June, United confirmed his release. Kuszczak signed for promotion contenders Brighton and Hove Albion, becoming one of their star players. He was released two years later when the club failed to achieve promotion. After a 2-year run with Wolverhampton, Kuszczak signed for his current club – Birmingham City – and is hopeful for a return to the top-tier this season.
