Slovakia and Romania square off in Group E in the 34th game of UEFA Euro 2024 on Wednesday (June 26) at the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt. All four sides in the group are level on three points heading into the final round of group-stage fixtures.
Slovakia were sent crashing back to earth following a 2-1 defeat to Ukraine at the Düsseldorf Arena on Friday. Ivan Schranz struck in the 17th minute to hand the Falcons a dream start, but second-half goals from Mykola Shaparenko and Roman Yaremchuk helped Ukraine turn the game around.
Before that, Francesco Calzona’s men had kicked off their Euro campaign on a high, stunning a star-studded Belgian side 1-0 at the Deutsche Bank Park on June 17.
Like Slovakia, Romania were denied a second consecutive victory in Group E, as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Belgium at the RheinEnergieStadion on Saturday. Edward Iordanescu’s men were made to rue their wasteful display in front of goal, as Youri Tielemans and Kevin De Bruyne scored in either half to hand the Red Devils a much-needed victory.
Their performance against Belgium was a far cry from their ruthless attacking display in their group opener on June 17, when they stormed to a 3-0 victory over Ukraine.
Belgium, Ukraine, Slovakia and Romania are all tied on three points, the first time all four sides in a Euro group will head into their final group game level on points.
