Germany edged past Spain 1-0 in their friendly encounter on Tuesday night thanks to a late strike from their mercurial playmaker Toni Kroos.
The World Cup winners ended their year on a high note while Spain who had a poor international campaign looked out of sorts yet again on a dismal night in the rain. Goalkeeper Kiko Casilla was handed a debut by coach Vincente Del Bosque while Celta Vigo’s Nolito also earned his first cap for the national side.
And although Nolito put on a promising display in front of the home fans, Casilla had a debut to forget as he failed to stop Kroos’ effort in the 89th minute, which led to a defeat for La Roja. The Real Madrid midfielder long range low effort skidded off the surface and bounced over Casilla’s body to give Joachim Low’s side a narrow victory.
Here is the goal.
