Madrid, Oct 12 (IANS) Spain’s national football team won 2-1 Friday over Belarus, making a further step to qualify for the World Cup to be held in Brazil next year.

The game started at 10.00 p.m. local time (2000GTM) in the stadium of Son Moix, placed in the island of Mallorca in the Mediterranean coast of Spain, where Spain beat Belarus thanks to two goals scored by Xavi and Negredo, Xinhua reported.

In the first part of the match, Spain made several attempts with Swansea’s player Michu carrying out the first attempt in the first 12 minutes.

Michu was called for the first time by Spanish coach Vicente del Bosque to play with the national team, which created a lot of expectancy along with the fact that Xavi was the captain of the team on Friday, instead of Iker Casillas, who was reserve.

FC Barcelona’s player Xavi scored the first goal after around 60 minutes and Casillas was replaced by Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

Negredo scored the second goal after 77 minutes thanks to a pass from Real Madrid player Sergio Ramos. As a result, Spain claimed victory, despite Belarus’ Kornilenko scored a goal a few minutes before the match ended.

After Friday’s game, Spain has to play against Georgia on Tuesday to qualify and play the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.
