Spanish La Liga action continued with Sunday’s Round 8 action with four matches held, while one is scheduled to be a Monday game. Here is a roundup of all the action.
Levante have surprised everyone this season, and if they keep it up they will be the revelation team of the season. Last night, they continued on course to be exactly that by defeating Malaga 3-1, thus sharing the top spot with Barcelona! Malaga were bell beaten and their complaint about the 61st minute red card to goal keeper Caballero was unfounded as he had touched the ball outside his area. Bakero in the 14th min, Juanlu in the 31st min and Kone in the 40th min were the scorers for Levante, who are now the talk of Spanish football.
Real Zaragoza managed to get three valuable points after defeating Real Sociedad 2-0. The man of the match was Zaragoza’s Postiga, who scored both the goals in the 10th and 49th minutes, the first of which was a brilliant overhead kick which was arguably the goal of the week.
Rayo Vallecano lost to Espanyol 0-1 courtesy a 53rd minute goal by Romaric. The two teams were well balanced and the match was tactically driven, ultimately decided by a well taken opportunity.
Sevilla defeated Real Sporting Gijon 2-1 in an entertaining game that saw a spectacular first goal by Sevilla forward Manu de Moral in the 15th minute. Sevilla scored the second in the 57th minute via Caceres and secured things after that. Gijon were not particularly bad, but their problem was the opposition goal keeper Javi Varas, who continually kept them out with good saves, while they did manage a consolation goal via Barral in the 64th minute. It has been a terrible start to the season for Sporting.
