Sporting Club de Goa scored a much needed 2-0 win over Bharat FC in the I-League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao on Saturday afternoon. Sporting Goa led 1-0 at the interval. Sporting Goa took the lead just before the breather when Brandon Fernandes curled in a spectacular free-kick from 25 yards out into the top corner of the net to give the Flaming Oranje the lead.
After resumption, Sporting Goa continued their game on a positive note. It took Sporting Goa just six minutes to double their lead when Pratesh Shirodkar smashed the ball into the back of the net from close range against the league newcomers.
Sporting Clube de Goa playmaker Brandon Fernandes was awarded the Hero of the Match for his splendid display.
With this win, Sporting Clube de Goa moved ahead of Bharat FC in the league standings into 10th position with now 14 points from 16 matches, while Bharat FC drop into last spot with 12 points from 15 matches. But with Bharat FC exempt from relegation, Sporting Goa still occupy the first relegation spot.
