#2 - John Stones to Manchester City (£47.26 Million)
John Stones emerged as one of the hottest prospects in European football while at Everton and was rumoured to have attracted the interest of a number of huge clubs, including Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
He would ultimately join Manchester City in August 2016 and while he has impressed at times, he still has a long way to go to justify his £47.26 million price tag.
Stones’s transfer was the highest fee ever paid for a defender until his club would break the record again in the 2017 transfer window.
