Blackburn Rovers have confirmed that their striker DJ Campbell has been arrested in connection with the spot-fixing scandal that has hit English football over the last few days.
The former Blackpool man is one of six people arrested as part of the investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA), following information from The Sun newspaper.
Blackburn Rovers released the following statement:
“Following reports in today’s national media, Blackburn Rovers can confirm that striker DJ Campbell has been arrested. The club will be making no further comment on what is now an ongoing legal matter.”
On Sunday, The Sun had reported that another former Premier League player Sam Sodje is said to have received £70,000 in exchange for getting sent off against Oldham Athletic in February earlier this year. In that game, Sodje repeatedly hit Jose Baxter in the crotch without any real provocation.
The tabloid also said that Sodje was preparing to fix matches in the World Cup in Brazil next year.
