Major League Soccer returns with a fresh set of fixtures as St. Louis City and Minnesota United lock horns at CityPark on Saturday. Eric Ramsay’s men secured their first MLS away win since May last time out and will head into the weekend looking to build on that result.
St. Louis City were sent back down to earth in their push for a playoff spot as they played out a 2-2 draw with New England Revolution last time out. This followed a 2-1 victory over Los Angeles Galaxy at CityPark on September 1 which saw their five-game winless run in the league come to an end.
With 28 points from 28 matches, St. Louis are currently 13th in the Western Conference table, level on points with 12th-placed Sporting Kansas City and eight points off the coveted play-in places.
On the other hand, Minnesota United moved into the second play-in spot last time out when they picked up a hard-fought 2-1 victory over San Jose Earthquakes at PayPal Park.
Before that, Ramsay’s men had failed to win seven consecutive away matches in the league, losing five and claiming two draws since beating Atlanta United 2-1 at the Mercedes Benz Stadium on May 5.
With 36 points from 27 matches, Minnesota United are currently ninth in the conference standings, five points behind seventh-placed Houston Dynamo in the final automatic playoff spot.
