Action continues in round three of Ligue 1 as Stade Brestois and Saint-Etienne square off at the Stade Francis-Le Ble on Saturday. Having lost their opening two matches, both sides will head into the weekend looking to grab all three points and get their campaign up and running.
Brestois were left empty handed once again, as they fell to a 2-0 loss to 10-man Lens at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis last Sunday. That followed a humbling 5-1 home defeat to Olympique Marseille in their Ligue 1 curtain-raiser.
Meanwhile, Brest's underwhelming start to the campaign has been in keeping with their struggles in pre-season, where they won once in six matches, losing three, scoring five goals and conceding six.
Like their hosts, Saint-Etienne failed to find their feet last Saturday, as they fell to a 2-0 loss to Le Havre at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
Before that, Olivier Dall'Oglio’s men had kicked off the season with a 1-0 defeat to Monaco at the Stade Louis II courtesy of a 28th-minute strike from Takumi Minamino.
Having secured promotion from Ligue 2 last season, Saint-Etienne will head into the weekend seeking to secure their first top-flight victory since beating Stade Brestois 2-1 in April 2022.
