There had been widespread speculations of Karim Benzema leaving the club this summer. Rumours had it that he was close to joining London giants Arsenal. His time at Real Madrid has been unsatisfactory to say the least as he has failed to reproduce his Olympique Lyon form which got rival clubs swooning over the Frenchman. Benzema joined Madrid in 2009 from Lyon and has scored 57 goals in 127 appearances for them.
