Klose broke this record in the semi –finals against Brazil which was held previously by Brazilian striker Ronaldo.

He has tally of 16 goals in four world cup appearances (2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014)

Though he didn’t score in the final against Argentina, but his count of 16 goals is considerably above his nearest competitors with Thomas Muller (Germany) with 10 goals and David Villa (Spain) with 9 goals.

With the help of record-setting match against Brazil in semi-finals, scoring seven goals, Germany broke the record for the most number of goals by any team in WC history surpassing Brazil’s score of 220 goals.

Gerd Muller (14 goals), Jurgen Klinsmann (11 goals), Thomas Muller (10 goals) and Helmut Rann (10 goals).

Germany has won five games out the seven times they have met Argentina in the world cup, with one loss and a draw.

Incidentally, it’s the fourth consecutive time Germany has stopped Argentina from winning the WC-twice in final and two times in quarterfinals.

Germany becomes the first European nation to win in an American continent. And,it is also the first time in World cup that a European team has won in an American nation. Germany’s 1-0 final win over Argentina meant the South American counterpart’s were toppled by the Euro nation.

European team Dominion in recent World Cup

With Germany’s win, it’s the third consecutive world cup win for a European nation- Italy won the 2006 World cup (Germany), Spain won the 2010 World cup(South Africa) and now Germany in 2014 (Brazil).

And it’s also the first time a continent has won three consecutive world cups. Europe leads the count 11-9 in all previous matches in WC over the South American counterparts.

All in all, it took Germany eight WC finals to win four world cup trophy. They also have the most number of goals scored by a team and also by an individual to their name which proves the recent dominance of European nations over their South American counterparts.
