Premier League clubs always have a great atmosphere in the home matches, one of the main reasons why the league is one of the most followed across the world. Stats show that West Ham are the EPL’s best-followed club at home, with many of the leagues’ top teams languishing in comparison.
A partisan home crowd goes a long way in unnerving the away team. Upton Park, also known as the Boleyn Ground, has the highest attendance rate, with average attendance being 99.8% (34,930/35,016) of seats getting filled regularly.
The Hammers have been playing a swashbuckling style of football under manager Slaven Bilic, with talisman Dmitri Payet showcasing his brilliant play, alongside good, solid attacking players like Enner Valencia, Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio.
Though their results away from home have been better in general, the home crowd have gone in numbers to support their beloved Irons. They also stand a chance of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, as they are only two points behind Manchester City in fourth place.
The top 3 is rounded off by Norwich City and Manchester United respectively, with the Canaries coming in second position, averaging 99.7% attendance (27,030/27,108). Despite the team’s relegation worries, supporters are thronging in big numbers to give their team an edge.
Manchester United are third with 99.4% of seats occupied on an average (75,335/75,731). The fans might not be happy with the level of success and the style of football under Louis van Gaal, but they still continue to go to the stadium to support the Red Devils.
Among the other big teams, Arsenal come in fourth place, something some people would say they are used to, with 99.4% attendance (lower than United in terms of absolute numbers, so ranked lower), while Chelsea are fifth with 99.2% attendance. Just like the EPL table, Aston Villa occupy the bottom slot here too, with their fans clearly not impressed by the way the team is playing.
Surprise league leaders Leicester City are 10th, with their raucous support flocking to the stadium to occupy 98.5% of the seats on average. One team that is surprisingly low on the list is Liverpool, who come in 13th position, with 97.1% of seats occupied on an average.
What is clear is that the league is very well viewed in general, and fans go out in big numbers to support their teams to spur them on to the best results possible in every home match. The fact that fans consistently go to the stadiums is what the Premier League is all about and conveys the spirit and thrill of the league.
