Chelsea returned to winning ways in the Champions League after a 4-0 win over Steaua Bucharest. The score could have easily gone into double figures had it not been for bad luck and some poor finishing.
There were impressive performances all round the pitch with the likes of Juan Mata, Andre Schurrle, and Ramires doing well. Ramires opened the scoring after a good bit of play from Samuel Eto’o, who had come on for the injured Fernando Torres.
Eto’o played a significant role in Chelsea doubling the lead through an own goal from Georgievski. Known for his delicate chips, Ramires got his second of the night with a powerful near post shot past goalkeeper Tatarusanu. Lampard’s injury time goal was probably deserved given Chelsea’s numerous chances throughout the encounter. Mata and Oscar hit the post in the second half.
The result puts us in the third place of the group. Schalke defeated FC Basel in their group match and it looks like the Germans will be our main opponents for the top spot. The next two group matches will be against Schalke.
