All we had read was opinion that Jose Mourinho and his Chelsea team were under pressure yesterday and anything other than a victory would be a disaster after losing to FC Basel on match day one in the Champions League. Jose’s team duly delivered with a fantastic performance scoring four goals and taking an all important three points!
From front to back, we were outstanding. Everyone put in a good shift and worked really hard for the win. The only blow is the injury picked up by Fernando Torres and we wait to hear news on him.
Petr Cech was never really in any danger in the game as our shape without the ball was better. We looked solid and apart from a flurry late in the game, we never looked like conceding. If anything, the focus was on how many more Chelsea would score.
We could have scored plenty more but it didn’t matter because the game was won by half time. Andre Schurrle is taking plenty of the plaudits today and rightly so!
With Eden Hazard out injured, Schurrle finally had a chance to play wide left and to show us all what he could do and he dominated his full back all day long. He beat him time and time again played a huge part in our first and third goals.
Ramires popped up with two goals and looked so much more comfortable back in the middle next to Frank Lampard.
Up and down all game, his run into the box was rewarded as he flicked the ball home from close range to make it 1-0. In the second half, he makes a run down the right hand side, receive a pass from Oscar after a flowing Chelsea move, and he blasts the ball into the roof of the net to make it 3-0.
Samuel Eto’o on for Torres played a huge part in the second goal. Latching onto a pass from Juan Mata that opened up their back four, he carried the ball into the box, checked back to his right hand side and fired a low shot that was pushed out by the Keeper’ but straight into the path of one of his defenders and he could do nothing but deflect the ball into the net to make it 2-0.
Frank Lampard finished off the scoring late on with a low trademark drive into the corner of the net from the edge of the box after Willian had played the ball back to him.
Overall, we looked more than comfortable and Jose Mourinho said on Chelsea TV that from the first minute he had a feeling we would win. He is right because we started so well.
It was almost like the game where finally everything clicked up front. Our movement, our passing and use of the ball was so much better and we now have an end product.
We just need to carry that into Norwich on Sunday. For now, we sit three points behind Schalke with two games coming up against them.
We are in a much better position thanks to a much better, professional performance!
Carefree & KTBFFH!
