The comparison between Gerrard and Lampard has been so intense that the debate seems to be a never ending one. Both Gerrard and Lampard are said to be England’s finest midfield maestros. Few have even rated these two magicians higher than the legendary Paul Scholes. Both of them have a good eye for goal and possess similar styles of play.

STEVEN GERRARD:

Liverpool should be thankful to Manchester United because United had rejected Steven Gerrard when he came for a trial. As a result, Liverpool signed him in 1997. Steven Gerrard is the type of player that you will wish to see in your favourite team’s jersey. A true inspiration, a born leader and a warrior. Steven Gerrard possesses the “never give up” quality that has earned him immense respect all around the globe and even from his rivals. The Liverpool leader is a genius when it comes to dictating the play from the midfield. An engine who makes all the runs and spreads the play. “Strong in the air, a good dribbler, a very good passer and a magnificent playmaker” has made him “Liverpool’s heart and soul”. It is understood that if Liverpool under-performs, it’s just because Gerrard was kept silent by the opposition. Gerrard is known for his jaw dropping long-range efforts. Liverpool turns to one man when they need to be rescued. That man is no other than Gerrard. Gerrard is fearless and doesn’t step back from challenges. Gerrard’s instincts are clearly visible when the games demands pace and becomes tight in the midfield. Gerrard came second in the “100 Players Who Shook The Kop” list.

Gerrard won the Ballon d’Or Bronze award and was voted as England’s Player of the year twice. Gerrard has won 1 UEFA Champions League trophy, 2 FA Cups, 3 League Cups and 2 UEFA Super Cups in his illustrious career.

Zidane hailed Gerrard as the “Best in the World” after he inspired a convincing 4-0 win against Real Madrid at Anfield.

FRANK LAMPARD:

Frank Lampard is regarded as one the best midfielders of his generation. There are very few who possess the art of quick passes when the midfield becomes highly congested. Having started his career at West Ham, Lampard completed his move to Chelsea in 2001. Right from his Chelsea debut, people felt this was the start of a special career in Chelsea’s blue shirt. Lampard is known for his “work-rate, range of passing and goalscoring ability.” Lampard has great peripheral vision and could start a lethal Chelsea attack in the blink of an eye. Lampard is known for his calmness whereas his counterpart is always dynamic. Whatever it is, long balls or short passes, all of them epitomize the quality that Lampard has. Even at the age of 34, Lampard’s grace has not reduced even a bit. People never take their eyes of Frank Lampard because of his ability to pick up the right person with a right pass.

Lampard has brilliant free kick abilities and he is England’s most reliable penalty taker. Lampard is not a natural dribbler, he is not a quick runner but his intelligent movements cause lots of trouble to the defenders. Lampard almost inspired a great comeback against Germany in the World Cup of 2010, but his luck deserted him after his goal was wrongly ruled out and his free kick rattled the crossbar.Lampard correctly anticipates his chance and his arrival into the opponent’s box is perfectly timed. This has made Lampard a goalscorer too. Lampard can also be compared to a striker because of his good finishing and accurate long range strikes.

Lampard won the Ballon d’Or Silver award in 2005 and was voted England’s player of the year twice. Lampard has 3 EPL titles, 4 FA Cups, 2 League Cups and 1 UEFA Champions League trophy under his belt. His consistency had Jose Mourinho hailing Frank Lampard as the “best Professional ever”. Lampard remains the only player to score at least 10 goals in ten consecutive seasons in the Premier League.
